Lost Promises

Over the years I have collected old snapshots, carte de visites, and portraits, from Central and Eastern European countries and America. These found images celebrate all the promises of life – marriages, special occasions, and family gatherings. I wondered how these photographs came to separated from their owners and their descendants, ending up in dusty junk stores and flea markets. I considered many scenarios. Did they immigrate to the New World? Were they taken to concentration camps? Were the marriages happy? Were life expectations fulfilled or not? By combining found images, my photographs and other materials I attempt to create fictional narratives for these ‘lost promises’.
